Nice, but metal is a little flexible

These bolts are nice quality, but I was a little surprised at how much they flex. I routed out new slots for these in old doors. After installing the screws (which are very short, like 1") the metal flexed and bowed out. I uninstalled them and was able to bend the metal by hand to minimize the flex, but they are still a little bowed. So they don't sit perfectly flush in the door. At least now they are flush enough to close the second door... at first they were bowed out enough that I couldn't close the french doors. I installed 2 bolts and they both had the same issue. I think the metal is just a little too narrow gauge. The antique hardware I pulled out was 3x thick.
